MAG - Timeline with Service

1990 – Company Established

MAG Shoe Services was established in 1990 to provide a specialist service in shoe repairs and footwear adaptations.

Over time, the company expanded its capabilities and developed a comprehensive range of orthotic products and services, including:

  • Bespoke and semi-bespoke insoles
  • Simple insoles
  • Footwear repairs and adaptations
  • AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses)
  • CROW walkers
  • Conventional metal orthotic devices

This expansion established the foundations for MAG's development into a specialist manufacturer and supplier of bespoke orthotic solutions.

2004 – Incorporation of MAG Shoe Services Limited

MAG Shoe Services Limited was formally incorporated in 2004 under Company No. 05032201.

MAG continued to strengthen its quality and environmental management systems, maintaining recognised standards and certifications including:

  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems
  • ISO 18001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems

These certifications reflected MAG's ongoing commitment to quality, environmental responsibility and the health and safety of its employees.

2012 – Acquisition of Peak Performance Products

In 2012, MAG acquired Peak Performance Products, based in Holmewood, Chesterfield.

The acquisition significantly broadened MAG's capabilities and product offering. In addition to its established bespoke manufacturing services, MAG expanded into the supply of orthotic materials and stock products, enabling the company to provide a more comprehensive service to its customers.

2016 – Expansion and Enhanced Facilities

In 2016, MAG relocated its Sheffield operation to more purpose-built premises at Unit 31, Jessops Riverside, Sheffield.

During this period, MAG further strengthened its management systems and regulatory capabilities by introducing:

  • ISO 27001 – Information Security Management Systems
  • ISO 13485 – Quality Management Systems for Medical Devices
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, replacing ISO 18001

These developments reinforced MAG's commitment to information security, medical device quality, occupational health and safety, and regulatory compliance.

2019 – Integration of Peak Performance Products

From 1 May 2019, it was decided to merge Peak Performance Products (Chesterfield) Limited with MAG Orthotics Limited.

The integration brought the two operations together under MAG Orthotics Limited, creating a more streamlined organisation and enabling the business to consolidate its manufacturing, supply and operational capabilities.

2021 – Major Investment in Holmewood Facilities

In 2021, MAG invested significantly in its Unit 5, Hardwick Court, Holmewood facility.

The development included:

  • Installation of a new mezzanine floor
  • Creation of a dedicated CAD/CAM suite
  • Investment in CNC machinery
  • Development of dedicated machine rooms
  • Further improvements to manufacturing capacity and workflow

This investment provided MAG with an enhanced manufacturing environment and increased its ability to support modern digital manufacturing processes.

2022 – Introduction of 3D Printing Technology

In 2022, MAG introduced a dedicated 3D printing facility at its Holmewood premises.

The introduction of additive manufacturing technology represented an important step in the company's continued investment in innovation and digital manufacturing, providing new opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, product development and production efficiency.

2024 – Establishment of Orthotic Service Division

In 2024, MAG Orthotics Limited established a dedicated Orthotic Service Division to complement its manufacturing and supply capabilities.

The new service arm was developed to provide qualified Orthotists to support customer service contracts, enabling MAG to offer an integrated combination of specialist orthotic manufacturing, product supply and clinical orthotic services.

This represented a further strategic development for MAG, expanding the company's capabilities beyond manufacturing and enabling it to provide a more comprehensive service to healthcare providers and other customers.

2025 – Expansion of Metalwork Operations

In 2025, MAG's Metalwork Department expanded into dedicated purpose-built premises at Unit 18, Carbrook Business Park, Sheffield.

The new facility provides additional specialist manufacturing space and enables MAG to further develop its metalwork capabilities, supporting the continued growth of its bespoke orthotic manufacturing operations.

PA11 3D Printed Insoles – A Modern, Sustainable Orthotic Solution

MAG Orthotics’ 3D printed insoles manufactured from PA11 nylon represent a new generation of orthotic design and production, combining performance, precision, and sustainability.

PA11 is a high-performance bio-based polyamide derived from renewable sources, offering a material that is not reliant on traditional petrochemical feedstocks. This provides a more resilient and future-focused approach to material sourcing compared with many conventional orthotic plastics.

Key Benefits

Sustainable material choice
PA11 is produced from renewable resources, reducing dependence on oil-based materials commonly used in traditional orthotic manufacturing.

Improved supply resilience
By moving away from petrochemical-derived plastics, PA11 helps reduce exposure to volatility in global oil-based supply chains, supporting greater long-term continuity.

Lightweight yet durable performance
The material offers excellent flexibility, strength, and fatigue resistance, making it highly suitable for bespoke orthotic insoles designed for everyday use.

Precision 3D printed fit
Additive manufacturing allows for highly accurate, patient-specific designs, improving comfort and consistency while reducing material waste.

Advanced alternative to polypropylene
Compared with traditional polypropylene orthoses, PA11 enables lighter, more adaptive designs with improved manufacturing efficiency and enhanced customisation capability.

Summary

PA11 3D printed insoles offer a forward-thinking alternative to conventional orthotic materials, combining clinical performance with sustainability and manufacturing innovation.
